This is my prayer.

To remain soft.

To remain uncalloused.

To remain gentle.

To be fully aware of what is around me. To soak it in. To be touched by it in a new way every time. To never become calloused to the things I see in this world. To see everything through the lens of eternity.

May I never see the pains of this world and say it’s normal. Say it’s life. May I never see and not feel. A starving child. A grieving heart. A weary soul. A lost life. May I never see those things and not feel the weight of them. May my heart break with every broken heart. Starve with every starving child. Weep with every weary soul. Grieve with the hurt. Seek with the lost.

May I feel deeply.

Yet still…

May I always see the pains of this world and feel hope. Feel joy. May I always see and feel. May I see and feel the hope of a future. The hope of redemption. The hope of joy. The hope of life. The hope of Christ. May my heart rest in the promise of hope. Rejoice in the joy of hope. Realize the power of hope.

May my heart remain in hope.

“Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.” – Kurt Vonnegut
