The only words I can find to sum up the sweet child that Matt and I have been sponsoring the past two years.
Yesterday we finally had the opportunity to meet him. Ya’ll. I don’t even know how to explain how much joy there was in that moment. I had heard stories about sponsors meeting their children and it being awkward, or the little ones being nervous and scared. I was honestly dreading the worst. I was so afraid that our sweet boy would walk up and be afraid of us or we wouldn’t have anything to talk about. As I saw him approaching us my heart was racing. And then it happened. The biggest little smile spread across his face and he ran right into my arms. Tears. So many tears of joy. I didn’t realize how much I loved this little guy. My goodness do I love him. For the next thirty minutes we sat talking, laughing, playing, and taking silly pictures together. Being able to speak Creole with him definitely helped and made it so much more natural since we didn’t have to communicate through a translator. I couldn’t stop kissing those sweet little cheeks! He didn’t seem to mind it too much =).
My heart has been put through the ringer these past two months. The Lord has been testing me. Asking the hard questions. Pressing me to truly rest in Him. I can’t fully explain it, but I will tell you that over the past few days the Lord has given me exactly what I need. Joy. The Lord has blessed me with some sweet moments these past few days that have just left my heart full of joy.
Friday was a hard day. I went down and spent two hours in the baby room at the orphanage here. One of the sweetest little boys cuddled with me for almost that entire time. We sat outside and he just laid on me while we watched the sunset over the ocean and the mountains. Pure joy.
Saturday, Matt and I got to go out to a kids club in Simonette and watch our awesome Village Champions do an amazing job at sharing the gospel with these kids. It was wonderful. I got to meet some of our Village Champions’ children, which they have been telling me about for months. There was also the happiest little four month old baby who I could have held for hours. Just what I needed. Wonderful joy.
And then… there was yesterday. That sweet smile, contagious laughter, and lots of hugs from our precious boy. Oh how I wish I could have made that moment last forever. Precious joy.
I am so excited to continue visiting him at school and we hope to be able to visit his home and meet his family one day as well. He goes to the MOH school here on campus, which is such a blessing. Mission of Hope does an excellent job with child sponsorship. Through child sponsorship, every child is given a Christ-centered education as well as a nutritional meal each day. I can tell you first hand that these kids are taken care of at school! We have team members here almost every week who get to meet their sponsor child as well. What a sweet experience. This year they added 2,500 more students that need to be sponsored. You can go here if you would like to find out more information about sponsoring a child.
I feel like I could write about this moment forever, but you’d never fully be able to comprehend how much joy there was in my heart. So instead, I’ll share some pictures with you. Hopefully that will give you a little better of a glimpse of the joy that has filled our hearts.
Big thanks to Rachel for letting us borrow her awesome camera!
